Metamorphosis of gratitude
رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ ٱلَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَالِدَيَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ وَأَصْلِحْ لِي فِي ذُرِّيَّتِي إِنِّي تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِنِّي مِنَ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ
Rabbi awzi'ni an ashkura ni'matakallati an'amta 'alayya wa 'ala walidayya wa an a'mala salihan tardahu wa aslih li fi dhurriyyati inni tubtu ilayka wa inni minal-muslimin
My Lord, enable me to be grateful for the favour You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteous deeds that please You; and grant me righteousness in my offspring. Indeed, I have turned to You in repentance, and I am of the Muslims.
What this supplication is
A Qur'anic prayer of a believing child for gratitude and righteous deeds, honouring parents and asking for righteousness in one's own offspring. It stitches together the three generations of the believer's concern.
When to recite it
In gratitude and reflection on family; and in asking Allah for a righteous lineage.
