Dua upon waking
ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ ٱلنُّشُورُ
Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur
Praise be to Allah who gave us life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.
What this supplication is
The Prophet (peace be upon him) is recorded saying this on waking, connecting sleep to death and waking to resurrection. It is the day's first lesson in the hereafter: every morning is a small return to life, and to Allah is the final return.
When to recite it
Immediately upon waking, before getting up or as you sit up.
